WHY I USE PROFESSIONAL LIGHT SOURCES ON INDOORS PHOTOSHOOTS?

Do you know why I am taking my "off camera strobes" with me for indoor photoshoots? Although it is the easy option just to show up with my camera and not carry around all that equipment (lights, tripods, light shapers, diffusers, reflectors etc.).

Here is a list of reasons why.

- I don’t want to be restricted by the “available light”. Some misleadingly call this “natural light”, which is absolute BS. If I like the “available light” then I use it for sure. I just don’t let it be the decision maker on the photoshoot.

- I want the photographs to be well lit. I don’t want any awkward motion blur due to very low shutter speed (in order to “suit” to the “available light”). I don’t want uncontrolled hotspots especially on the face, or zero details washed out with odd colours. I want those mid tones and textures that make the portraits “natural”.

- I want the photos to look good when shared on platforms, be able to be used large, on a printed material etc. I don’t want them to look wishy washy, diffused, muddy and blurry.

- I don’t want to use one click presets to “sort” what “available light” allows me to take, which usually ends up with the problems I mentioned above.

- If someone is hiring a professional to take photographs for them, they want something more than a snap taken by a friend with a “good camera”, right? Especially if it is for their business. I take this seriously, don’t you?

- Because the person hiring me is worth this. Worth all the hustle carrying around those gear, although it is the easy option just to show up with my camera.
